Season 22 introduced a number of changes Apex Legendsbut unlike many previous seasons, one Legend change had a huge impact on the rosters of competitive teams. Nowhere is this more common than in the 2024 ALGS Split 2 Playoffs, where the majority of the 40 competing teams had a Legend on their roster.
ALGS (Apex Legends The Global Series is where teams from all over the world battle it out to prove they are the best and hopefully take home a huge slice of the $1 million prize pool. The rosters always reflect what the best teams and players in the world utilize, whether it’s professionally or occasionally in ranked play. I’ve never seen Crypto carried on a top-ranked team and I’ve only seen him once at an ALGS event. However, after his buffs in Season 22, he’s become a vital player that’s almost imperative to the game Apex Legends at the highest level.
What happened to Crypto?
When will the updates be in Apex Legends Season 22, Crypto’s changes caught my attention the most. His Surveillance Drone ability cooldown was reduced from 40 to 30 seconds, and he also received a huge buff. With a fresh ability called Off The Grid, Crypto becomes unseen while using his drone, and while scans can still reveal him, he is hidden from Threat Vision abilities.
This is quite powerful, as the player who uses Crypto can now serve their teammates by launching a Surveillance Drone and checking for any enemies nearby before everyone moves on. In a game like Apex Legendsyou want to make sure that if you die, it’s because you made a mistake and not because you failed to notice the opposing team hiding in the corner.
In addition, Crypto’s drone will show the opposing player for 4 seconds, giving your team a ton of information to react to immediately. If you catch two or three teams in your area, you can move in on them before the drone finishes, overtaking those who thought they were protected.
As the match progresses and players level up their Crypto, they can escalate the duration of the drone scan to 5+ seconds. The information from these scans can then be upgraded by selecting the appropriate perk to reveal enemy players with live tracking for the duration of the scan. In simpler terms, Crypto players can upgrade Legend to the point where the team can see enemies through walls within a certain radius, see where they are moving, and how they are reacting to an attack.
Cryptocurrencies have never been this good Apex Legendsand the only players who utilize him are those who have trained to become experts in using his skills and abilities. Now, Crypto is imperative because a team with the information he provides can preemptively move and eliminate their enemies.
At the highest level, Apex Legends it’s a game of knowledge, not strength, especially at the highest level. If you know where the enemy is, what skills and ultimates they can pull, and what your team has at their disposal, you have a much better chance of winning than a team that may be able to figure out what weapons and skills you have, but has no idea where you’re moving.
