It’s been a decade since the Hipster Whale first made a splash with Frog-road crossing style mobile game Way of the CrossHis colorful characters finally returned in the 2020s. Crossy Road Castleand now they are jumping across the road to the consoles.
The port will bring Crossy Road Castle for PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch later in 2024. Before that, there’s a public demo at BitSummit 2024, which takes place July 20-21 in Kyoto, Japan. Possibility to play in local and online multiplayer mode, Crossy Road Castle is a procedurally generated platformer with 10 challenging towers and over 150 characters to collect and items to customize. After arriving on Apple Arcade as an exclusive in February 2020, it eventually found itself among the nominees for Destructoid’s Mobile Game of the Year award.
There have been some changes to the transition to fresh platforms. The user interface has been rebuilt for each version, and cross-platform multiplayer is available for players on different consoles. Hipster Whale also promises a steady schedule of regular content updates on consoles. These include limited-time events with special levels and fresh character drops.
After spending the last four years and some changes to Apple Arcade around the world, it’s nice to see Crossy Road Castle branch out further. It’s straightforward to learn regardless of skill level, and hopefully the move to fresh platforms will give it even more room to grow.
