Creating handmade Pixel-Art Bionic Bay platforms, April 17 on PS5

Published:

Welcome to the Precision Platform! I am Juhana, imaginative director Bionic Bay – My most ambitious project. Bionic Bay is a precise platform set in an archaic bio-mechanical world, a handmade pixel pixel to create a high faithfulness atmospheric environment.

Bionic Bay began as a random meeting between me (Mureena) and Psychoflow Studio, on the Reddit post showing their mechanics SWAP. Soon we began to cooperate, combining their technical knowledge with my experience in designing the level and artistic direction from previous titles, such as Badland 1 and 2.

Creating Bionic Bay: One pixel at once

A modest exchange mechanic remains a central gameplay mechanic, but Bionic Bay recorded an amazing boost from the beginning. We knew early that the biggest obstacle would be the creation of environments that was a challenge without a frustrating. In addition, this balanced challenge would be hosted in intricately detailed and handmade pixel environments, devoting a significant time to create.

We approached these developmental challenges with a straightforward two -piece solution. First of all, I would focus on designing level and art, and psychoflows would work on a technical solution to make sure that our mechanics looked great and worked well.

Perhaps, more importantly, we agreed that we all regularly jump and play at every level, experiencing it like a player. We wore it all the way to release, and this helped us provide a perfect balance and we understand the player’s journey through Bionic Bay.

We all love a precise platformer, but we also wanted to make sure that Bionic Bay provides a unique and valuable experience, which boils down to the basic game mechanics.

It started with the SWAP function, which for the first time connected Mureen and Psychoflow – enabling players to switch places with objects at each level. Soon more tools joined him, each of which undergoes regular game tests:

  • Chronolag, our time to expand the time that allows players to leisurely down time for a low time. In addition to enabling players to move around rapidly moving areas, it is also a great way to boost speed to support you get faster times in our ghost racing mode.
  • Power Fist, ensuring the possibility of launching objects in the environment. In addition to cleaning the space in solo history, used in combination with chronolag has led to the imagination of solving puzzles to speed up the journey
  • Manipulation of gravity, enabling players to bend the forces of reality. This can support remove paths or find modern paths. It is critical, however, to be careful, because this modern gravitational direction will also affect loose objects at the level, which can lead to … unintentional cessation of all signs of life.

Of course, players will be introduced to these mechanics as the archaic biological world progresses Bionic Bay. Some will be able to exploit together, and players will often have to connect these tools (as well as quick thinking and precise control elements) to overcome the challenges you face.

In addition to using them in our narrative adventures for one player, players can also find our dedicated online challenge mode at Bionic Bay Online. Bionic Bay Online allows players to compete for the fastest time on the course, racing with the spirits of other players’ data – something that should talk to those of us who race on PlayStation at the turn of the 1990s and 2000.

To compete in Bionic Bay Online, players will have to exploit all tools at your disposal and find imaginative solutions to take first place on the leader table. We will also add a special content after launching Bionic Bay, including dedicated levels of time challenges to allow the world to present your skills.

Legendary PlayStation cooperation

We delight the announcement that Bionic Bay also cooperates with one of our biggest fans – the legends of PlayStation Shuhei Yoshida. We will implement a special level only for SHU in online challenge mode after starting Bionic Bay on April 17. If you take part and overcome the Shu score, you can even unlock our SHU skin, allowing you to adapt the appearance of the scientist of our online leaders.

In addition to the SHU player’s own skin, we also bring you a luxurious edition of Bionic Bay – with our classic monster skin package. This includes eight costumes inspired by Vintage Horror (my favorite species), with alien, werewolf and more. The classic monster package allows players to free some terrifying charm and really sink fangs in online results tables.

The Bio-Mechanical World of Bionic Bay opens to PlayStation 5 on Thursday-17 April, and is now available to the wish list!
