Published:

Future hobbits everywhere have some bad news to report this week, as Private Division and developer Weta Workshop have announced a delay to their life simulation game Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings. It was previously expected to release in overdue 2024, but has now been pushed back to early 2025.

Tales of the Shire is in production for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and we’ll get our next look at the game during A Hobbit Day Showcase on September 22.

Team Statement sounds:

“All of us at Weta Workshop are excited for you to join us in the Shire, a peaceful corner of JRR Tolkien’s world. When a up-to-date hobbit first steps into Bywater, we want that moment to be everything you hoped for.

“To ensure we deliver on this vision, Tales of the Shire will launch in early 2025.

“Thank you for your patience and continued support. Be sure to join us for our A Hobbit Day Showcase on September 22nd to learn more about Tales of the Shire and our new release date.”

As you would expect from a life simulator, it will all be about the daily life of a hobbit. Players will be able to fully customize their hobbit in Tales of the Shire and furnish their hobbit homes in a variety of ways. Going out to Bywater, players will be able to assist other residents with tasks, forage, cook, and garden. The key part is just living comfortably and making friends with the people around you. Wonderful.
