Remedy’s fresh multiplayer game set in the Control universe has been fully revealed for the first time under the name FBC: Firebreak.
Billed as a three-player cooperative game, it offers a more colorful take on the popular Remedy universe. The first gameplay trailer shows three characters in environmental suits fighting various enemies in fast-paced first-person gameplay. There is also a garden gnome. Check out the trailer below.
In the next post regarding Xbox cabledirector Mike Kayatta said that FBC: Firebreak “is not Control DLC and is certainly not a sequel to Control.” Instead, Remedy calls it a game you can “play with friends and complete lots of hectic co-op missions.”
Players take on the role of first responders from the Federal Bureau of Control fighting enemies in the Oldest House using “paranatural enhancements,” or “altered items” built into tool attachments. This apparently covers it
“At Remedy we have always made single-player games, and we can be sure that we are working on more single-player games and they will be amazing, but we have wanted to make a PvE multiplayer game for a long time.” – says Kayatta. “There are a lot of us here who love multiplayer, not just single-player. We don’t want to play the same games all the time; It’s good to take on new challenges.”
It’s worth noting that Remedy says FBC won’t be your typical live service game. While there will be plenty to unlock and a steady stream of fresh content, it won’t be geared toward “logging in every day looking for loot or fearing you’ll miss out on content.” It will also feature many fresh stories set in the world of Control, albeit with a slightly different approach.
“For people who have been following the single-player adventure, we wanted to make sure that FBC: Firebreak was a legitimate and impactful part of that story and history. The narrative style we’ve seen in our previous games just never worked here for this type of game,” Kayatta explains. “When you think about the gameplay differences in FBC: Firebreak – full story, single-player multiplayer, voice chat with teammates, action instead of exploration, and so on – you probably understand why it was important for FBC: Firebreak to be a standalone experience. That said, you’ll see more of the world of Control. More about the Federal Audit Office. Meet more of the people who work there. Discover more of the Oldest House. Move on to more weird stuff. And importantly, experience this world, old and new, from a completely different perspective.”
In the meantime, work is underway on Control 2, which is currently in the design phase. Remedy is also preparing new DLC for Alan Wake 2. As for FBC: Firebreaker, it will appear in 2025 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
