Players didn’t have much time to process Concord’s impending departure — Sony only gave everyone a few days’ notice before the servers went down. But amidst the chaos stood a select few who saw the challenge of earning the game’s Platinum trophy before it disappeared, and some of them actually did.
In Concord, players only had to complete 100 levels, each of which granted a cosmetic item, but that wasn’t the point for these mavericks. Instead, some players wanted to complete them for the sake of completing the game and the platinum trophy that came with the honor.
This meant that the last few days of Concord’s life were a confusing mess, with some players trying to enjoy the time they had left by butting heads with perfectionist nihilists who threw themselves off cliffs to earn XP. I joined the last shreds of chaos by popping into a few Rivalry games to see what all the fuss was about, and as you might expect, my teammates were throwing themselves off the map, away from the keyboard, or just wandering around until someone put them out of their misery. It was a bit of a weird experience, but to be fair, I was leveling up surprisingly quickly, so the race for platinum wasn’t entirely impossible.
Ultimately, 69 players earned the platinum trophy, ending Concord at a rather fitting time. some players didn’t find it as fun as othersthe overwhelming majority of responses were “cool.” A joke thread on r/Games it was even closed by a moderator for not having “enough content” – almost all of the deleted comments were just “nice” or “cool”.
But nothing good lasts long because someone decided to step in and put an end to the joke. One trophy hunter managed to rewrite his final platinum score to 70 by creating a psn account after Concord closed. “Ban this guy from the platform immediately” one of the players joked.
