Check out the latest Cyberpunk 2077 patch for a secret TTRPG surprise

In the pre-Christmas secret update to Cyberpunk 2077developer CD Projekt Red added a compact gift in the shape of a tabletop. Spokesman z Cyberpunk publisher R. Talsorian Games told Polygon that “any person who owns Cyberpunk 2077 and can access the additional content folder that can now be found Cyberpunk RED: Easy Mode there, of course, for free.”

No mention Cyberpunk 2077Update 2.2 has quietly released a quickstart guide for the tabletop RPG. Easy Mode has shortened rules and an introductory mission to quickly introduce novel players to using dice pools instead of controllers and keyboards. Players will be able to take on the role of one of five previously generated characters at the very beginning: the charismatic Rockerboy, the deadly Solo, the inventive Tech, the life-saving Medtech and the uncompromising Media. While the guide provides a brief dive into the history and landscape of Night City, fans of the video game should become well-acquainted with the world of the prequels Cyberpunk red.

While a preview was released at Gen Con in 2019, the full version Cyberpunk red originally released alongside Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. The board game is the latest edition of the original Cyberpunk 2020 RPG (released in 1989). The series explores a gritty science fiction depiction of the twilight phase of capitalist technofuture where, according to the game’s description, “corporations control the world from their skyscraper fortresses.” Maybe a little on the nose. The action takes place in 2045, Cyberpunk red takes place halfway between the events of Cyberpunk 2020 AND Cyberpunk 2077.

Polygon has confirmed that the giveaway will be available to PC users. To check if you have a copy of the PDF file on your computer, go to “C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappsmusicCyberpunk 2077 Bonus Content”. Polygon was unable to verify how to download the PDF on Xbox and PlayStation, although a spokesperson said it “should” be confirmed for those platforms as well.
