Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow – How to Find All UMA Souls

Published:

Saying there is a lot of power to gather Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow would be putting it lightly. Every enemy you fight has a power that you can drop. However, if you want that sweet 100% collection, there are a few secret souls you’ll need to collect.

These souls belong to creatures referred to as “UMA” or Unidentified Mystery Animal. In a more common sense, you’ve probably heard of them as Cryptids. These are creatures that are said to exist, but there is no concrete evidence to support this. In Dawn of SorrowThree cryptids are known to roam the villain’s lair. You’ll need to exploit information from UMA News articles to find and attract Yeti, Flying Humanoid, and Mothman.

Where to find the soul of the Yeti

The Yeti lurks in the first “room” of the game. It’s actually an outdoor area, and he’ll be lurking in the forest background. You can’t go back there and catch him; you have to lure him out with some delicious food.

To lure him out, you’ll need to get a soul from a Skeleton Waiter. They’re most commonly found in the Demon Guest House. Waiter souls are strenuous to come by because the cowardly sacks of bones will throw a plate of food at you and run away. You’ll need something to stop them, like the petrify ability or a massive club to crush their weakness. Once you’ve got a good system down, it’s time to kill them over and over again until one of them drops a soul.

With your fresh power, return to this starting area in The Lost Village. Use the Waiter Skeleton’s soul to throw some delicious curry on the ground. The Yeti will immediately sense it and jump out of the background to grab a bite. The only problem is that the food is too zingy! The Yeti will take damage trying to eat it, then immediately retreat back into the background. Attacking him before he gets the curry will also scare him away. You’ll need to exploit similar tactics on him as you did with the Waiter Skeleton. He’s tender to fire, so if you have a fire sword or skill, that should assist defeat him.

Yeti Soul is a Guardian exclusive power that summons… “a white ball of dark power that grows as it rolls.” It’s a snowball. It creates a snowball that you can push along the ground, and it gets bigger as you roll. It’s not the most useful, but it’s pretty fun!

Where to find the Flying Humanoid soul

The second soul belongs to a creature called the Flying Humanoid. It’s strenuous to get a good look at what exactly it is. However, it shouldn’t be strenuous to miss, floating in the sky behind the clock tower. At the top of the Cursed Clock Tower, between the Save Room and the Boss Room, you’ll see a compact figure flying in the distance. It seems to be vulnerable to sonic attacks, so you’ll need the assist of Mandragora Soul to defeat it.

The best place to find the Mandragora Soul is scattered around the Garden of Madness. They look like Une and Corpseweed until they pop out of the ground. They will quickly let out an ear-splitting scream and explode. Unfortunately, killing them is only granted if you defeat them BEFORE they self-destruct. The best place to farm them is on the map below, as they share a room with another Soul you’ll need later. Farming Mandragora and Rycuda’s Thunderbird is a great time saver. But more on that in the next section.

Once you have the Mandrake, take it back to the top of the Cursed Clock Tower and summon the screaming root. This will cause the Flying Humanoid to explode in the distance, sending its soul spiraling towards you. You can theoretically farm this soul, but it doesn’t become more powerful than the first one.

The Flying Humanoid Soul is a Guardian type that gives you bonus Intellect and Luck when activated. Soma will sprout some chilly looking wings to let you know when he’s energetic, but he drains mana pretty quickly. It’s a helpful tool when farming souls and occasional items from enemies.

Where to find the soul of Mothman

My favorite cryptid, Mothman, is a bit more elusive than the other two souls. It’s a bit less obvious where he’s hiding, since you can’t see him until he’s summoned. To do this, you’ll need the aforementioned Rycuda soul. It gives you the ability to throw lightning, which is both a great weapon and a useful tool.

Mothman is a late-game soul found in The Pinnacle of the Castle. Beneath the largest room in the area is a long hallway. You’ll know you’re in the right place if there are two Final Guards in it. You can find a dormant generator and a immense reflector between them. You’ll need to exploit Rycuda’s lightning power to get the machine working again. If it doesn’t work right away, be sure to hit the machine with the tip of your lightning. This will summon Mothman, allowing you to obtain his soul. He should drop it on your first kill.

The Mothman Soul gives you a buff to your EXP. Combine it with the Shaman Ring for an incredibly rapid level augment!
