Castle Crashers Gets DLC on Steam Over a Decade After Its Release

Published:

Castle Crashers, the wildly successful 2D hack-and-slash game from the Xbox 360 era, has received a downloadable expansion pack on Steam more than a decade after its original release.

This morning, developer The Behemoth showed off the upcoming Castle Crasher expansion, Painter Boss Paradise, during a press conference Live broadcast on YouTube. The DLC will not only see an artistic update to the cast and weapons, but will also allow players to design their characters using the Steam Workshop. Paint Boss Paradise will also introduce a fresh playable character named Paint Junior, who the developers describe as someone who can “defeat enemies with the power of his imagination alone.” Given that the livestream is titled “The Behemoth Roadmap,” the Painter Boss Paradise announcement was not included in the release date, though The Behemoth says it will reveal those details at a later date.

The Castle Crashers DLC wasn’t the only thing The Behemoth announced today. Along with the yet-to-be-announced release date for Painter Boss Paradise, The Behemoth also listed a number of updates for its previous games:

  • Battleblock Theater will receive a quality of life update that includes graphics, frame rate, and bug fixes on Steam, as well as a port to Xbox Series X/S.
  • Pit People also receives a quality of life update
  • Alien Hominid HD and Alien Hominid Invasion will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5

The Behemoth announcement series has come to a close with the announcement that their next game is in the prototype stage. Little is known about whether the upcoming game will be the highly anticipated Castle Crasher 2 or a completely fresh game. Regardless, Behemoth fans have plenty of games to look forward to in the coming days.

There’s some great humor and a few nice surprises here that will please most. Of course, the most important thing is that it’s a ton of fun – especially when you’re playing with friends.”
