Last month, Capcom revealed that it will put next year’s Street Fighter 6 professional finals behind a paywall, with viewers asked to opt for a pay-per-view model.
As one might expect, this decision was met with considerable opposition; many fans, players, and prominent figures in the community argued that Capcom was causing unnecessary damage to both its brand and fighting games in general.
However, it seems that the publisher is not ready to completely pack up its plans just yet. New correspondence from Capcom itself on social media shows that it is currently “reviewing” the price of the event – but there is no word that the company will abandon the current concept.
“We have received a lot of feedback from fans and are verifying the details. We are currently considering adjusting the price for paid live viewing,” reads the company’s official post (translated VGC).
All told, virtual pay-per-view tickets can cost up to 6,000 yen, or about $40/£30.
Do you think Capcom will back away from this whole pay-per-view thing? Or has this gone too far? Ask how this even happened in the comments section below.
