Can Surskit be shiny in Pokémon Go?

Published:

Surskit, the pond skater Pokémon from Hoenn, can be found in the wild in PokemonGo. Yes, Surskit can be shiny PokemonGo!

While the shiny Surskit doesn’t look much different from its regular form (it just turns a darker blue), the shiny Masquerain undergoes quite a massive change, staining its entire body green (except for the pupils on its artificial eye wings). So it’s no surprise that neither Surskit nor Masquerain see any operate in raids or PvP.

What is the shiny rate for Surskit in Pokémon Go?

According to senior research conducted on the now defunct website The Silph Road (via Return machine), the Shining Rate of Pokémon on a normal day is approximately one in 500. Surskit is not a confirmed Pokémon that receives “permaboost” (meaning it is a sporadic spawn and therefore receives an increased Shining Rate).

What can I do to attract more shiny Pokémon?

Not much, unfortunately. This seems to be a random coincidence. Catch rates for Shiny Pokémon are set by developer Niantic and are typically only increased during special events such as Community Days, Safari Zones, or Legendary Raids. There are no consumable items that escalate the number of shiny Pokémon.
