Callisto Protocol is getting the Mammoth 8K 30fps update on PS5 Pro

Published:

Callisto Protocol has joined the growing list of games that can be played in 8K resolution on PlayStation 5 Pro.

Striking Distance Studios’ Callisto Protocol was released in December 2022 as a triplex spiritual successor to A Dead Space, but was met with mixed reviews, efficiency problems, reports studio crisisAND problems with crediting employees who worked on the game.

Callisto Protocol initially failed to meet parent company Krafton’s sales expectations, and Glen Schofield, who co-created Dead Space and directed The Callisto Protocol, left Striking Distance Studios after significant layoffs.

Now the Callisto protocol has received an update enabling 8K displays at 30 frames per second on Sony’s updated mid-generation console. Alternatively, you can play in 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. Interestingly, both graphics modes enable full ray tracing.

Callisto Protocol joins Polyphony’s Gran Turismo 7, Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky and Codemasters’ F1 24 in supporting 8K output on PS5 Pro.

The PS5 Pro launched earlier this month for $700 and features resolution upscaling via the AI-powered PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR. However, some games seem to perform worse on PS5 Pro than on the base PS5, with players of Silent Hill 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor reporting issues.

IGN’s PS5 Pro review gave it a 7/10. We said: “PlayStation 5 Pro is an impressive console, offering noticeable performance and graphics improvements in games that take advantage of its powerful hardware. But at $700, you’ll have to think twice about whether the upgrade is worth the price.
