In a post on X, Reisdorf confirmed his decision to leave Sledgehammer Games after a decade and a half of service. The studio’s first contribution to Call of Duty it was 2011 Modern War 3meaning that Reisdorf worked on every major game in the Sledgehammer series.

He then launched into a long thread detailing some of his favorite features he’s worked on over the years. As it turns out, he made quite a contribution to the franchise!

It is worth noting that Reisdorf was responsible for the weapon signature system, which gave each weapon a unique characteristic, making each of them different from each other. He started to describe Advanced Warfare as being “ahead of its time” thanks to its off-the-ground movement system, and claimed that the emblem editor feature seen in older titles “was a hill I would die on” despite players using it to create unsavory images.

However, upon reflection, it turned out that not all artistic choices were the right solution. Reisdorf claims that the Pick 13 class system “shouldn’t have been created” because it forced players to compare attachments and weapons with rewards such as killstreaks. Similarly, the division system in Call of Duty: World War II prompted grave reflection, with Reisdorf stating, “It’s hard to look back and know that we sent this way.” The entire thread is a fascinating look behind the scenes of the last 15 years Call of Dutyand it’s worth reading.

Reisdorf has not yet revealed where he will employ his talents and experience next, although he will certainly be a valuable asset to any team, especially in the FPS space.
