Currently, the independent studio BeanAdventureAgency is working on a novel, unofficial installment of the Monkey Island saga. Designed as a love letter to the classic point-and-click series, Alcohol from Monkey Island is available as a free early access download and captures the atmosphere and wit of previous adventure titles.
The latest official entry in the series, 2022 Return to Monkey Islandit had all the necessary ingredients for a worthy sequel to the point-and-click series, including the original voice cast reprising their roles and an entertaining script courtesy of Dave Grossman and Ron Gilbert. However, the novel scrapbook style has caused some division. Personally, I preferred the lush, hand-drawn aesthetic The Curse of Monkey Islandwhich clearly inspired the artists responsible Booze.
Alcohol from Monkey Island it’s still a work in progress, lacks voice acting and has some coarse animations, but the artists and programmers did a great job with the atmosphere. The game uses a radial menu system, similar to what we saw The Curse of Monkey Islandand while only a diminutive portion of the game is currently playable, it’s packed with cameos from classic characters like Wally and Kate Capsize.
Although the developers at BeanAdventureAgency stated this Alcohol from Monkey Island is being created solely as a non-profit tribute, they are currently trying to fund their own original adventure title, The Adventures of Tango Riovia Kickstarter for those who want to support their work.
