Boomer shooter creator discovers his dogs have been barking in an ‘unbearable loop’ for years

Sometimes it’s strenuous to keep dogs peaceful. More than a year and a half after Hrot was released in early access, the developer of the Quake-inspired shooter fixed dogs after discovering that for some players, several dogs were barking in an obnoxious and endless loop.

Here’s what one dog looks like he had to behave himself in the game. Here’s an example of the same dog, but endless barking. You can silence your puppy for two seconds by feeding him until he vomits, but then he starts barking again. On the other hand, isn’t this also normal dog behavior? Who can say. Judging by some comments on Steam, it looks like this bug affected Linux-based systems.

“It’s a pity that such a bug stayed there for almost 2 years,” the creator said. “The levels with the ratters must have been terrible, almost unplayable, brrr.”

I haven’t played Hrot (to my shame as a Quake fan), but I know that the “ratters” mentioned here refer to the same puppies that Hunt rats for yourself in this level. They’re very cute, but for Rick, who wrote our Hrot review, that wasn’t the highlight of the game. He preferred the opening episode:

“In this case, the socialist parody of the game and the nuclear anxiety are in perfect sync. As you wander through Prague’s abandoned streets, gymnasiums, and cultural centers, you’ll come across photos of Czechoslovakia’s first communist dictator, Klement Gottwald, which you can kiss to show your loyalty to the nation. Later, you’ll descend into some underground chamber filled with dried corpses as the Geiger counter reaches its crackling level. an overwhelming crescendo.”

This makes it sound very lofty. It’s also a game where you shoot a horse wearing a gas mask with a double-barreled shotgun. It’s a game where you fight a Putin lookalike riding a bear. After completing work on the shooter, the developer focused on the strategy genre, releasing a retro RTS set on “a sandy planet with horses, tractors and techno music.” It’s called – I’ll check… ah, Shot.
