BLEACH: Soul Resonance is a gacha game that tells the hugely popular Bleach story – best known as an anime adaptation of an earlier manga – in the form of a free action RPG game for mobile devices. It serves as both an entry point into the series for modern fans and an opportunity for long-time players to experience Ichigo’s Soul Reaper duties first-hand.
As a gacha game, BLEACH: Soul Resonance offers an impressive array of playable characters right from the launch, and the main characters don’t always take center stage in the meta. To learn more about the characters you want to choose, read on BLEACH Soul Resonance Starter Character Tier List.

S level
Ichigo Kurosaki (Bankai) SSR / Slash / Full Attack
As the game’s first confined flagship character, this third version of Bleach hero Ichigo is, unsurprisingly, one of the strongest units at launch, easily defeating every other Full Assault character to act as your DPS. In particular, his ultimate is almost laughably overpowered compared to others in the starter set, allowing him to counterattack for extra damage at the same time, resets his ability cooldowns to work twice in a row, and briefly becomes unkillable thanks to his high interrupt resistance.
Kisuke Urahara SSR/slash/support
While Ichigo-Bankai may be unrivaled as the top damage dealer in the game, Kisuke Usahara easily emerges as the premier standard standard character thanks to his unrivaled support role functionality that provides a massive combat buff to the rest of the team’s critical damage after using his ultimate. Kisuke’s own attacks aren’t too shabby either, with the ultimate itself dealing 300% of Kisuke’s attack when triggered.
Kaname Tosen SSR / Thrust / Tactics
Rounding out the crucial starting trio, Kaname Tosen takes the crown as the best tactical unit in the game. Kaname’s ultimate is arguably the first crowd control move in the game, pulling enemies in a generous AoE towards him while dealing an insane amount of AoE damage, weakening any trapped enemies for further DoTs, and refreshing Kaname’s ability energy and cooldown.
Byakuya Kuchiki SSR / Slash / Tactics
Surprisingly, the fourth and final S-Tier fighter in the starter set is not a direct counterpart to the standard banner’s Ichigo-Bankai, but a different tactical unit, although this game’s rather loose class boundaries mean it’s not exactly an alternative to Kaname. In Byakuya’s case, “Tactics” refers to an extremely useful sub-DPS kit that allows him to significantly improve his attacks and technique while in his ultimate state, even when he is off the field.
Level
Yoruichi Shihoina SSR/Strike/Full Attack
Like other Strike fighters, Yoruichi relies primarily on delivering one powerful blow to a single enemy, making her a viable DPS boss killer choice for your team. Her ultimate deals almost 500% damage on the first hit, before triggering a 10-second period during which all her damage is increased by 10%, and her special attacks cost no Spirit Pressure.
I’m talking Komamura SSR / Strike / Tactics
Sajin is notable not only for his anthropomorphic, wolf-like appearance, but also for being the only character in the starter set whose special attacks are summon-based. Namely, his ultimate summons his companion Kokujo Tengen Myo-oh, a gigantic being that amplifies Sajin’s impact damage and prevents him from dying on the battlefield – but at the cost of being unable to dodge or counterattack.
Ikkaku Madarame SSR / Thrust / Full attack
If you don’t already have Ichigo-Bankai, Ikkaku is probably the closest equivalent in the standard banner. Admittedly, thrust warriors are not as powerful in the current meta as their Slash counterparts, with less immediate power balanced with a greater emphasis on dealing repeat damage over a compact period of boost time. Nevertheless, Ikkaku has many other key elements of Ichigo-Banki’s kit, including a generous 14-second buff to his own attack damage after his ultimate, as well as a compact period of invincibility.
Rukia Kuchiki SR / Spirit / Tactics
One of only two Spirit-specialized fighters in the starting lineup, Rukia wields a classic gacha RPG element: she can summon frost within the area of effect to both deal massive damage to enemies and freeze them for a period of time. This makes her easily the most effective crowd control character at the SR level, as well as a useful potential sub-DPS, especially for F2P teams.
Yachiru Update SR/slash/support
Yachiru, one of our highest-rated SR units at launch, is available to all players as a login bonus upon logging in on the second day of play. Fortunately, she’s also one of the best support units available: unleashing her ultimate creates a massive burst of damage that also buffs Slash’s other combat specialists, with an added bonus if she immediately leaves the field.
Level B
Uryu Ishida SR / Thrust / Tactics
If you were hoping that Bleach’s canon doctor would be a support unit for healers, I’m afraid BLEACH: Soul Resonance had a different take on that. Instead, Uryu gains an area attack that deals massive damage to a line directly in front of him after casting his ultimate.
Orihime Inoue SR/Spirit/Support
Surprisingly, it’s Orihime who gets the honor of serving as a member of the starting team as healing support – and since she’s the second character you get for free when progressing through the tutorial, you’ll never be compact of a medic. Her ultimate can protect teammates from debuffs, as well as provide low-level but still desirable healing to the entire team.
Renji Abarai SR / Thrust / Full attack
Renji is roughly Byakuya’s SR counterpart. His ultimate when activated features a similar blade-splitting attack that deals almost 1000% attack damage on hit. However, the trade-off compared to Byakuya is that Renji doesn’t gain any buffs or off-field benefits to continue that impressive starting ultimate.
Ichigo Kurosaki (Shikai) SR / Slash / Full Attack
Main character Ichigo’s second form does more or less what you’d expect. This is an intermediate version of the base set common to all three versions of Ichigo in the lineup, representing a more desirable version than the Ichigo-Initial you get for free during the tutorial, but without the bells and whistles you get for grabbing the SSR version from the confined banner.
Level C
Our C-tier characters aren’t necessarily bad – like most state-of-the-art gacha games, BLEACH: Soul Resonance was too clever to actively run bad characters – but they just don’t represent much of an advantage in the overall meta. No wonder your starting character Ichigo Kurosaki (initially) falls into this category – it does the job, but doesn’t represent anything particularly spectacular.
Other characters currently parked on this level include Nemu Kurotsuchi, Yasutora Sado (aka Chad, honestly not living up to his self-proclaimed moniker) and Ururu Tsumugiya. All three are SR-ranked characters; this isn’t a huge surprise considering lower rarity characters fill out the lower tiers in gacha games by design. They represent the Support, Full Assault and Ranged character classes respectively, so at least there is no particular deficit in the overall composition. You can still comfortably play the game with a party of C-level characters; you simply won’t be able to play with the kind of overwhelming ultimates seen at higher levels.
