Black Myth: Wukong has quickly become the most popular game on Steam. Although it hasn’t been out for a whole week. Ugh. Luckily, we can employ our time wisely as we prepare for the gigantic day — repeatedly running the game’s up-to-date benchmark tool to fine-tune our settings just in time.
The up-to-date benchmarking tool is available for download on Steam. It is of course free and does not require a prior order of the game. It is popular in its own right, having become 18th most played ‘game’ on SteamAt its peak, over 60,000 players were playing.
This is exactly the kind of benchmarking hunger we like here at PC Gamer Hardware. Hey, if you love benchmarking so much, why don’t you come over? Work here. This is not a joke.
I played around with the benchmarking tool this morning, and in many ways it seems pretty good. You can change most of the game settings in the tool itself, which means you can really find the best game settings for your system before it releases.
I ran the test on my gaming PC. It consists of an RTX 4080, Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, too many SSDs to count, and a chunky air cooler (air ftw). For good measure, I also have a 4K gaming monitor connected. According to the test, I can squeeze out 70fps at 4K (61fps min) with all graphics settings maxed out — including ray tracing and cinematic visuals. I also have DLSS enabled in balanced mode with frame generation enabled, which helps a lot.
Enabling DLSS, XeSS, and FSR will certainly aid most gamers. We ran a benchmark with high settings, no ray tracing, and XeSS enabled at 3440×1400 on an Intel Arc A770 and managed 34 fps. Okay, that’s not great compared to Nvidia’s top cards, but at least it’s relatively playable thanks to upscaling.
However, it is worth running the comparative test several times to get a stable result. I ran it once and something was still building in the background and this caused some stutters later in the run. These disappeared on the third playthrough.
Black Myth: Wukong is premiere scheduled for August 20, 2024. Nvidia has already released drivers for the game, which can be downloaded from Game Ready Driver Official Websitealthough neither AMD nor Intel have released any yet.
If you want to install the game on release day, you’ll need to clear some space on your computer. The game requires 130GB of disk space, preferably on an SSD. Some kind of scaling is also expected, whether it’s DLSS, XeSS, or FSR. Here are the rest of the system requirements:
| Header Cell – Column 0 | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i5 8400 Processor | Intel Core i7 9700 Processor |
| Memory | 16GB RAM | 16GB RAM |
| Graphics Processor | Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB | Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, Intel Arc A750 |
| Storage | 130 GB (SSD recommended) | 130 GB (SSD recommended) |
Black Myth: Wukong puts pretty low demands on your PC. Although from our own testing with the Arc A770, you’ll need to lower most settings and crank XeSS all the way up to get it running on the Arc A750 or similar.
