Battlefield Redsec is now available to everyone and free to play on all platforms. This is a up-to-date subsection in Battlefield 6, with its own modes. We’ve covered everything included in this pack in another guide, so in this one we’ll focus on the Battle Royale mode.
Depending on how familiar you are with the Battlefield series or Battlefield 5’s Firestorm BR mode, you may be surprised by the specific quirks and core features of this particular Battle Royale mode.
Here are our top tips after playing Redsec BR.

Fights take place over long distances
This may be a bit obvious to anyone familiar with how Battle Royale games work, but it’s especially true in Redsec BR. Due to a combination of how many health points you have, how many armor plates you can equip, how quickly your character moves, how precise your weapons are, and other factors – you probably won’t find yourself in too many close-range fights.
This obviously doesn’t apply to the very early game or right after you’ve fallen and everyone is looking for weapons. If you manage to do this, you’ll be shooting at distant targets most of the time, and the same goes for your enemies.
Thanks to the game’s impressive destruction, close-range encounters – especially those that take place around buildings – will require more than just plain gunplay. Keep all of this in mind when choosing your custom weapon from among the available weapons.
You don’t last long when you’re knocked down
Building on our previous point, downed players have surprisingly little health in Redsec BR. While you can move around and make it harder for enemies to finish you off, if they’re close enough to see half of your body or more, you’ll last maybe one second in this state.
It goes without saying that finishing off a downed player isn’t always the right move, but if you expect to stay downed for 20 seconds or more while trying to lend a hand your surviving teammates by reporting the attackers’ location, you’re in for a rude awakening.
The best option is to have a team member drag and revive you, preferably a support player as they can do it the fastest. You can also find defibrillators as loot in chests which can be used to revive team members faster.
Explore the different chests
As you explore the Battlefield Redsec BR map, you’ll come across various types of chests that contain everything from weapons, armor plates, ammo, gadgets, throwables, useful summons, and more. Regular chests are, well, the most common and are always green.
The black and red chests are uncommonand a little harder to find. They contain a higher rarity of the same type of equipment found in regular chests. Rare chests also have a higher chance of placing shock packs such as artillery attacks.
The most critical type, however, are Class chests that are orange and have all the class icons on them. The contents of these chests vary depending on the class that opens them, so it’s best to leave them to a poorly equipped teammate whenever you can.
Depending on the class of the player who opens them, they may drop an Assault Kit, a Recon Kit, etc. They also contain upgraded weapons that match the signature weapons of that class, so the Assault player will get an upgraded AR and so on.
The same applies to the types of gadgets found in class chests. It’s always a good idea to have one of your team members – preferably playing a different class – open one of these chests to get useful items that will benefit the entire team.
Completing missions is the fastest way to obtain custom weapons
As we have already mentioned, there are various sources that lead to custom weapon drops. If you’d rather not wait for a match-wide event where a ton of them will spawn, or you want to avoid fighting with other players for them, the best and easiest way to get custom weapons is to simply continue the mission.
After completing multiple missions, you will be rewarded with your own Custom Weapon Drop that the entire team could benefit from. You can always operate another one later – either as a reward from another mission or via public missions – to get a second custom weapon, making your entire loadout tailored to your needs.
It’s worth noting that not every mission will reward you with a custom weapon drop. Before accepting a mission, be sure to read the mission description and reward screen. Generally speaking, the riskier the mission – including counter-missions – the higher the value of the rewards.
Don’t collect upgrade kits
Upgrade kits cause a lot of confusion among players about how they work, so let’s break it down. In plain words, Upgrade kits raise the rarity level of your weaponas long as it is below the Advanced level (purple).
Each upgrade kit can only upgrade one weapon once and only works on the same weapon type for which it is intended. If it has a Shotgun icon on it, you won’t be able to operate it on an AR, for example.
There are two ways to operate the upgrade kit. By looking at it in a world with the appropriate type of weapon equipped, you can operate it immediately without having to pick it up first. Another way is to pick up a few and open your inventory to see which of your weapons have an upgrade prompt (also indicated by green animated arrows pointing up). Hold down the Update button and the right one will be used up.
That’s why it’s best to share upgrade kits that you no longer need – either because your weapon is advanced or higher, or because it is no longer useful to you. When using it, you can choose between two upgrade paths – which translates into one specific expansion over the other. Think about reach vs. larger storage.
Vehicle ammunition is valuable, don’t waste it
Like Firestorm, vehicles in Redsec BR spawn with circumscribed ammo for all weapons. Spamming, like in a multiplayer game, is a very bad idea. They also all have the same vehicle equipment, which means there’s no way to counter, for example by equipping things that speed up reloading. When you need ammo or repairs, keep an eye out for supply stations scattered around the map.
If you run out of ammo and have no way to refill your supplies, you can still operate vehicles as cover. One common tactic is to get inside, spot targets, and exit the vehicle to shoot at them. When you are injured, you can jump back into the vehicle – but remember that you will not be able to get back inside.
Even without ammo, vehicles can be extremely useful, so make sure there’s an Engineer nearby to repair them when rockets start flying at you. And definitely don’t abandon them just because they’re out of ammo.
