Battlefield 6 devs reveal upcoming changes to aim assist and weapon flourishes in what could be the biggest update yet

Published:

Battlefield 6 will receive what will likely be its biggest update yet, including restored aim assist and additional weapon bloom fixes, on November 18 as work continues on Season 1 continues.

EA and Battlefield Studios presented the past, present and future of Battlefield 6 and REDSEC post-launch plans in update published online Today. It includes a list of the headlines of current issues that players can expect to see addressed when the next chapter of Season One, California Resistance, premieres on November 18, as well as some of the content coming to Winter Offensive on December 9.

“For our teams at Battlefield Studios, this is just the beginning,” reads a message from the team. “We have watched, read, listened, and are working hard on how to improve the experience for all of you. We are focused, enthusiastic, and on target because Battlefield has always been at its best when we built it together, as we have throughout our journey through the Battlefield labs, our open beta, launch, and this season of Season 1.”

BF Studios has teased that the Battlefield 6 California Offensive update will introduce a up-to-date map called Eastwood, as well as up-to-date weapons and a up-to-date mode. We already know that the mid-season update will also include five key gameplay elements: weapon dispersion/bloom, lighting adjustments, challenge clarity, Fort Lyndon in the Portal, and aim assist.

Weapon dispersion and weapon bloom remain one of the hottest topics among Battlefield 6 players online, as they affect the accuracy of each weapon depending on various in-game factors. BF Studios says it has made a “minor overhaul that reduces the rate at which dispersion and recoil build up when firing continuously.” These tweaks apply to all weapons, with most of them also benefiting from recoil improvements, and the developers hope that in the future, players’ weapons will “work smoother and more consistently, especially at longer ranges.”

Lighting and visibility change the visibility of the target soldier, while the challenge requirements that BF Studios already started with in the last update should be more pronounced starting with the November 18 Battlefield 6 update. Portal players can also expect to see more benefits from Fort Lyndon as they continue to craft the perfect maps and modes for Battlefield 6. As promised, aim assist settings will also be restored to be more in line with what players experienced during the open beta a few months ago.

“We’ve adjusted Aim Assist to make aiming smoother and more predictable, helping players build stronger muscle memory,” reads a message from the team. “Training is now similar to the Open Beta. As a result, Infantry Aim Assist and Infantry Aim Assist Slow have been reset to match the new values, so please try the update before making changes.”

Battlefield 6 is getting some major changes when California Resistance launches on November 18, but the December 9 update could also introduce some game-changing changes. Vehicle balance tweaks are one of the things BF Studios has planned for next month, and fixes for some of the Breakthrough and Onslaught maps will also be on the way.

Finally, while there are no concrete plans yet, BF Studios has outlined some community talking points it is considering for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. These include additional challenge adjustments, UI and menu improvements, player stats, social play, hit registration/netcode, overall vehicle experience and, yes, even map sizes.

“We’ve seen your comments about map size and pacing. Battlefield works best when maps offer different ways to play and constant action around every corner. Achieving this balance is always a priority, and we’re focusing on different types of maps in future seasons. With Eastwood’s arrival in the California Resistance Update, we’ll continue to monitor existing maps and modes for targeted adjustments (like what’s planned in Winter offensive), while also learning from the work of the community on the Portal.”

Players on the site are famous for using the social tools it offers to create not only crazy creations, but also some of the larger maps that players are looking for. IGN recently spoke with creative director Thomas Andersson about the future of Portal, and we learned that BF Studios has more to offer when it comes to refining the mode.

“We have always planned to add features and new content as people use the Portal and make it available to people to create new and impressive experiences,” Andersson said. “What they’ve created so far is just stunning, some of it. It’s like, ‘Oh, what do you think?’ It’s crazy. It’s been fun to watch, and I think it’s only going to get better as kids get more comfortable with the tools and we give them even more things to play with.”

We’re also reviewing a number of current REDSEC features, including audio performance, Free Battle Royale, armor, and tank availability. Another option BF Studios is considering is solo gameplay in Battle Royale and how such an option could work in Battlefield 6 and its Battle Royale offshoot.

“We’re just getting started and there’s still a lot ahead of us,” BF Studios’ message ends. “Following California Resistance Update November 18 Winter offensive arrives December 9 with Season 2 Premiere in early 2026. Thank you for continuing to shape the future of Battlefield with us.”
