- NCSoft’s multiplayer MOBA Battle Crush will be shutting down in November
- The move appears to be part of a broader corporate restructuring at NCSoft
- The issue affects other games such as Doguri Adventure and Miniverse
In a surprising move, NCSoft has decided to shut down the Battle Royale MOBA game Battle Crush. Servers for Battle Crush will end on November 29in-game purchases will be paused later today, with a potential refund plan going into effect on the same day as the shutdown. So for Battle Crush fans, it seems like the end is near.
The move to Battle Crush is quite a surprising turn, considering the mythology-inspired multiplayer game only recently received a major overhaul with recent content added in Season 1.5. This isn’t entirely unexpected, however, given the number of games that have ended abruptly on mobile devices over the past few years.
As reported by Gematsu peoplethis decision appears to have been influenced in part by the corporation’s decision to create four recent subsidiaries by spinning off parts of their operations. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if this move was part of broader changes at the company that negatively impacted both Battle Crush and other NCSoft games Doguri Adventure and Miniverse.
A crushing defeat
I have a tender spot for Battle Crush, considering it’s one of the first games I covered, starting on the consumer side of PocketGamer. And while it was never a favorite game, I thought it was thoroughly enjoyable both in terms of graphics and gameplay, and other people on the site agreed it had potential. If corporate restructuring is one of the reasons for this, I find it a bit frustrating that we have to constantly see games being shut down or otherwise hampered by unrelated business decisions.
