Ayaneo’s announced its recent AMD Strix Point notebook computer, and you can bet CES 2025 will be full of recent AMD and Intel options

This week has been quite a strange one for mobile gaming devices. The OneXFly F1 Pro, complete with a Strixpoint processor and a price tag over $1,000, has finally entered the pre-order phase, and now Ayaneo has announced the Ayaneo 3 machine, which also enters the market for AMD’s Strix Point APUs.

As he noticed Graphics cardthe recent handheld has two different models, one with the Ryzen 7 8840U processor spotted in the current iteration Ayaneo Kunaand one with an AMD Ryzen AI HX 370 processor. The former has 12 compute units (CU) and integrated Radeon 780M graphics with an RDNA 3 processor, and the latter has a Radeon 890M with 16 RDNA 3.5 compute units.

As demonstrated in our testing earlier this year, the 890M is a dramatic improvement and outperforms the competition, achieving 20% to 40% better performance than the 780M.

It’s also worth noting that most of the mainstream handheld gaming market relies on many of the same basic specifications. Take Acer’s Nitro Blaze 7 for example. The model announced in September is equipped with the Ryzen 7 8840HS system, which is a laptop version of the above 8840U model.

It hasn’t been launched yet and doesn’t have a price tag, but I was surprised by the lack of innovation in its specs, and that’s partly due to the market stagnating around a few central chips.

However, there has been zero innovation in mobile devices. The main improvements seem to have been in screens, battery life, and so on.

This mobile device will be even more tough to launch if it doesn’t offer an attractive price, as many other premium devices will switch to Strix Point due to its better performance.

For fear of losing what’s popular, it seems unlikely that Ayaneo and OneXPlayer will be the only machines launching with these recent chips, as many mobile devices launching with older technologies will be perceived as inferior unless they are available in super competitive prices .

CES 2025 is just a few months away and will take place in early January. If a company wants to impress with recent hardware, this is the best way to do it because consumers can hold it in their hands and play right away.

The most exorbitant OneXPlayer F1 Pro model costs $1,899, and the recent Ayaneo isn’t priced yet, but that’s a lot of money for such a machine. Ayaneo was really hyping this recent device with its “the future is here” statement just a few weeks ago, and that’s probably part of the justification for the price of these recent chips.

Although the marketing hype seems a bit over the top now that we see what we’re working on, which is more of the same sort of stuff we’re used to with handhelds, but with the next generation on top.

Time will tell if it’s worth spending the money, but I expect we’ll see a lot more of it after the recent year. Don’t forget that there are also Intel Lunar Lake-based handhelds worth keeping an eye out for. We’ve already seen the MSI Claw 8, so fingers crossed there’s even more to see at CES 2025.
