The annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit takes place this week, and that’s where we’ll get our first look at the novel one Asus ROG 9 phone Your Android device in action. We’ve seen Asus collaborate with Qualcomm before, but this feels a bit unique, suggesting that both brands are keen to show off the potential of their latest technological advances.
We haven’t heard much about the upcoming gaming phone until today, but now Asus has officially revealed the phone, its design, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, telling us that we should expect a special launch event on November 19, 2024. Given that the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro features topping our guide to the best gaming phones, we’re expecting large things from this next-gen phone as it goes up against solid performers like the RedMagic 9S Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Previous ROG phones have been among the most powerful and feature-rich gaming phones on the market, and the ROG Phone 9 promises to deliver more of the same thanks to its cutting-edge Qualcomm processor. Asus says we can expect “industry-leading speed, power and game-changing graphics” and that the phone will “take mobile gaming to new heights.” Of course, we’ll learn a lot more about the performance when lucky journalists get to take their phone for a spin at the Snapdragon Summit. Asus says it will offer a live preview of the novel device during the event, which we’ll definitely hear about soon after.
For now, we can only get a glimpse of a design that’s more likely reserved for a gaming phone. It appears to have a matte black back with a dot pattern similar to many ROG gaming laptops. There’s an illuminated ROG logo near the base, but it’s unclear whether it’s customizable like some laptop models. While this doesn’t give us much to say, it does confirm that Asus is clearly going for more understated designs for its gaming phones, which are quite different from the wacky look of the brand’s previous devices.
On the front you can see a immense, flat screen with small bezels, but the specifications and everything else about the phone remains a mystery.
