Almost ten years after the game’s release, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has been patched on current consoles with a significant performance update.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the underrated Victorian-era stealth game now runs at a polished 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is also possible to simultaneously escalate the game’s resolution to 4K, although this will not be available to people playing on the slightly weaker Xbox Series S console.

The publisher did not provide a specific reason for the Syndicate mini-remake, nor did it mention similar updates for other popular AC titles, including Ezio Collection, Unity, and Black Flag. With Assassins’ Creed Shadows being pushed back to February 2025, it was likely keen to drum up interest in older entries while many players had overlooked Syndicate.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate launched in October 2015, and while it was met with generally positive reviews, fans became overly familiar with the time-hopping open world formula, even as it introduced two heroes and a truly compelling setting. This would be the last installment before Ubisoft hits the reset button, taking players back to antique Egypt in 2017’s Assassin’s Creed: Origins. Its debut drew a line in the sand and served as a foundation for future titles, pushing further and further into action RPG territory.

Last year’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage went against the grain with a smaller, more focused adventure that took advantage of many of these role-playing systems. We gave it a solid 7/10 in our review, and Aran said: “Assassin’s Creed Mirage will appeal to anyone who has longed for a return to the old-school open-world stealth of earlier games. It’s almost exactly the same, with a few additional refinements and additions. Some of these additions are a bit distracting and break the immersion, but nothing stands in the way of some old-fashioned kills.
