The boys are back in town and this time they have an extra dimension. Billy, Lee and the gang from the classic Double Dragon arcade series are being remade by Arc System Works and Yukes into a 3D fighting game, watch the trailer below.
The game is described as being “more than just simple button mashing,” so it sounds like you’ll need to learn a few combos and “immerse yourself in strategy by learning enemy behavior patterns and finding the most effective moments to attack,” Arc System Works adds.
The game retains the original’s side-scrolling element. “This work faithfully recreates the true thrill of scrolling while adapting the controls and difficulty to the modern age,” reads a Famitsu article accessed via Google Translate.
The last game in the main series was the fairly average Double Dragon IV, but last year saw the release of a spin-off, Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragon, which featured a charming, pixelated aesthetic.
Double Dragon Revive – scheduled for release in 2025 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.
