Fashion is there weird. Like brand loyalty, now I think about it, is what Apple seems to be testing with its latest creation, the iPhone Pocket. Designed in collaboration with Issey Miyake, a brand based on the work of the delayed fashion designer of the same name, iPhone Pocket, as Apple proudly declares, “was born from the idea of creating an additional pocket.”
Revolutionary stuff. It was also inspired by the concept of a “piece of fabric”, which is quite obvious because that’s exactly what it looks like (via BBC News). The version with a long strap was also priced $230a character that has drawn much ire and ridicule from the online community. Quelle surprise, etc., etc.
Everyone has an iPhone in their pocket. $230 for a cut up sock. Apple people will pay anything for anything as long as it’s Apple. pic.twitter.com/wRtQKBzoqtNovember 12, 2025
Some have made comparisons with wear a sock around your neckwhich itself is reminiscent of something you might see on a runway near you, as a bold, reimagining of the footwear paradigm. Or something.
Of course, Apple and Issey Miyake were keen to point out that this was not the case Just piece of material. It’s made of textured fabric in a variety of colors that reference the “everyday usability of the brand’s iconic pleated garments.” It has been cut open to create a much-needed additional pocket, and thanks to the versatile material, it can fit a single iPhone and “all your pocket items.”
It’s a bit like carrying your phone like a newborn baby in a sling, which, considering some of the praise heaped on products like the iPhone 16, seems quite appropriate. Many Apple fans love to show off their latest purchases as items of great significance, and instead of hiding your iPhone, carrying it around in a vivid and eye-catching case is just another way to show the world that you, too, are an Apple lover.

However, they say that fashion is art, and good art provokes conversation. The iPhone Pocket appears to be doing just that, and is already seen by some as a litmus test for Apple fans’ brand loyalty. Sure, you can live the Apple lifestyle, but isn’t tying a mankini-like sock around your neck a step too far? Please find the answers on the back of the postcard.
