Good news! There is fresh Earth Defense Forces game and it’s out now! Bad news, if you want to play the game online on Steam, you’ll need to create an Epic Games account. This fact was revealed on launch day and was so poorly received by players that the creators of the giant fresh bug-killing game have already announced plans to remove the requirement after just 24 hours.
Earth Defense Force 6—the highly anticipated next installment in the third-person, sci-fi, monster-smashing series — released on Steam on July 25. It’s the first mainline entry in the cult series since 2019. People were excited to play the game, which launched in Japan in 2022 but has only just now made its way to the U.S. on PS4, PS5, and PC. EDF6 promises more missions (all playable in online co-op) than any previous installment. But the game quickly garnered a ton of negative reviews on Steam due to the unannounced requirement for an Epic Games account in order to play online.
July 25, day EDF6 fired, a post appeared on the game’s Steam pageIt quietly confirmed that players will need to create and log into an Epic Games account to play the shooter online.
Players were not cheerful about this, criticizing the developers for not making this clear before launch and forcing them to employ another account outside of Steam to play online. What followed was about 24 hours of player review bombardment EDF6 on the Valve digital store. As reported GamesRadarBy the end of its launch day, EDF 6 had over 1,000 reviews and a “Mostly Negative” status on Steam.
EDF6 Developers Announce Changes to Epic Account Requirements
On Friday, just 24 hours after it all started, in response to overwhelmingly negative reviews, EDF6′s devs published a fresh post on Steam, confirming that all “feedback” had been heard and some changes had been made.
“Thank you for your opinion on “Earth 6 Defense Force” said Sandlot developer. ” EDF6 The Steam development team is reviewing and planning changes to the spec requiring login with the Epic Games account that received the most feedback.”
Sandlot did not provide details on when the changes to the Epic Games account requirements will go into effect, but assured fans that they have heard all the screams and seen all the negative reviews, and that they are currently working to resolve the situation.
This whole disaster reminds me Hell Divers 2 PSN requirements failure what happened earlier this year. Just like with EDF6player reviews have bombarded the Steam page of the popular sci-fi shooter so much that Sony finally gave in and withdrew regarding PSN requirements.
If I had a nickel for every time a co-op third-person shooter about killing insects in space enraged its fans by requiring a third-party account to play online on Steam…
