Amazon Games CEO Says Studio Will Bring Games to Nintendo Switch 2, Praises Switch as ‘Great Device’

Published:

Nintendo fans are still eagerly awaiting news about the Nintendo Switch 2, which isn’t expected to launch until April 2025. However, Amazon Games CEO Christoph Hartmann says fans should be patient, praising the Switch as a “great device” and saying the brand will support the next-gen Switch whenever it arrives.

“Yes, of course we plan on making games for the platform, and I can’t wait for it to come out. Honestly, I’d rather they waited a year and got it perfect than rush it out and then we’d all complain about what’s not working,” Hartmann says. “The Switch was such a fantastic product that I’ll wait another year if I have to. And in terms of development, I think most developers outside of Nintendo aren’t making Switch-only games. They’re always part of a portfolio of different platforms. Just wait.”

Hartmann’s statement is especially noteworthy considering that Amazon Games has yet to release a game on a Nintendo platform. Up until now, games like New World and Lost Ark have primarily released on PC. While Amazon Games will release Throne and Liberty on console this fall, it will support PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Yes, of course we plan to make games for it and I can’t wait for it to be released

For now, we can only speculate on the Switch 2’s specs, but previous rumors have suggested it’s at least powerful enough to run the Unreal Engine 5 Matrix demo. As for a release date, we can only guess when the Switch 2 will actually release. We might get a clearer picture of the Switch 2’s progress if it holds its customary Nintendo Direct in September.

In the meantime, Nintendo has a handful of games lined up for the fall, including Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Looking further ahead, Nintendo plans to release Metroid Prime 4 in 2025. You can find the full list of fall 2024’s biggest releases here.

As for Hartmann, he discussed a number of topics in his exclusive up-to-date interview with IGN, including Tomb Raider, Lord of the Rings MMOs, AI, and more. For more, check out all the biggest announcements from gamescom 2024.
