11 Bit Studios has released a major free update for The Alters that makes this clone-tastic survival game a little more relaxed, lets you indulge your inner photographer, and more.

The first free content update for The Alters introduces Relax Mode and Photo Mode, which have been highly requested features. The relaxation mode difficulty reads: “Enjoy the game with calmer survival mechanics and less time pressure. Recommended for players who want to focus on the story.”

In addition, recent relaxation-themed content is also available. There’s a Player’s Room that you can add to the facility you manage, as well as a recent card-based mini-game to relax with. A recent storyline has been introduced to the game that has the feel of a true film noir with black and white graphics… and you can customize the base with a range of deeply customizable patterns on the outside. A similar level of visual modification possibilities also occurs in the case of space suits.

That’s quite an update if you ask me!

While it may have been stressful, we gave The Alters a great review. Ade said: “The Alters is one of the standout survival games of its generation. Steeped in a fascinating sci-fi concept through the ages – one that raises some truly fascinating ethical questions – and high-pressure survival mechanics that keep things gripping from start to finish, it’s quite an experience. Did I enjoy playing this game? Not really, but for God’s sake, I’ll never forget it.”
