Throughout final stage With Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veilyou will have to make a series of choices. Some of them are obvious and have little impact on the overall outcome, while others have much more dramatic consequences (i.e. death, destruction, etc.).
Our Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil guide contours all endgame choices and outcomeshelping you keep as many people alive as possible. But first…
Let’s get this out of the way: there are spoilers for the ending Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil and the fates of the members of the Veil Guard below. We will approach this carefully whenever possible, but there is no other way to do it.
How to prepare for the endgame in Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd
Everything you do throughout the game secretly prepares your allies – both the team itself and the various factions across the world of Thedas – for the final battle.
Completing each of your companion’s quest lines will grant them Hero of the Veil Guard status, give them a fresh skill and get some fancy armor. Many of them will be conversations and then the occasional fight.
The essential thing is that as you complete each companion’s story, they will be better prepared to survive the battles to come.
Similarly, your relationship with each faction – the Antivan Crows, Lords of Fortune, Mourn Watch, Shadow Dragons, Veil Jumpers and Gray Wardens – plays a role in their role during the final battle. During the game, you make decisions for them and aid them. Ultimately, how good your relationship is with each faction determines how strongly (or whether) they will feature in the final battle.
It all starts from the moment you decide to save Minrathous or Treviso from a dragon attack. Whoever you don’t aid will be in a (slightly) weaker position at the end of the game.
Will everyone be able to survive in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
All your preparations are really aimed at making sure everyone survives the final battle. But unfortunately not everyone will succeed. You will lose at least one member of your team. And perhaps more. We will address this below.
All final choices in Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil
All the choices you make lead to the end Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil determine what ending you can get and who will survive the final battle. The strength of your faction and your allies achieving Hero of the Veil status can almost guarantee that everyone will survive, but you can still make bad decisions.
We’ll go over all the options in detail below, but let’s list them out for uncomplicated reference:
Choice |
The best teammate |
|---|---|
| Convince the Inquisitor to reunite with Solas | Not applicable |
| Who should lead the distraction? | Davrin or Harding |
| Who should remove the shields? | Bellara or Neve |
| Who should unravel security? | Bellara, Neve, Emmrich and Harding |
| Who should kill the Venatori commander? | Lucanis, Harding or Neve |
| Who should stop Juggernaut? | Taash |
| Who gets left behind? | Davrin, Harding, Lucanis and Taash |
Can you convince the Inquisitor to reunite with Solas?
When you get close to the end of the game, you will receive a task called “Legacy and Legends” where you must meet the Inquisitor at the Cobbled Swan in Dock Town.
During a long conversation about Solas, the Inquisitor will reveal that he was once in love with him and, depending on your choices, he may be willing to forgive him.
Should Davrin or Harding be a distraction?
Starting the task “When Plans Align” warns you that you are nearing the end of the game. We still have a long way to go, but this is where the action really begins.
After an intense conversation with the party, you will go to the Isle of Tears to stop the gods’ ritual. You will immediately have to decide whether Davrin or Harding will lead the dispersal force.
Whoever you choose, you will be successful, so it’s not a problem. The problem is that whoever you choose will be ultimately sacrifice yourself later during the fight with Ghilan’nain. There’s no way around it. Sorry. (Consider that Assan sacrifices himself along with Davrin if that influences your decision.)
Should Bellara or Neve eliminate security?
Once the distraction team is successful and rejoins the larger team, you will reach the Void Tear and your path forward will be blocked by blood magic totems.
Either Bellara or Neve can dismantle them (successfully), so there is no immediate wrong choice. However, whoever dismantles will be caught by Elgar’nan and infected with the plague (and will be unavailable to your team for a while). I’ll say it again: there’s no way around it.
Whether or not they can defend against kidnapping and infection depends on whether or not you have achieved Hero of the Veil status. If you don’t do this, they will become infected.
In tiny, choose anyone who has the status of Hero of the Veil’s Ward.
Who should do what job in ‘The Last Gambit’
During The Dragon and the Dire Wolf, you’ll have a round of final interviews with the team (one of several, to be straightforward). Finally, you will gather everyone (minus two) at the kitchen table. This will start immediately “The Last Gambit” and you will have to make some decisions about life and death.
In a montage that combines planning and action, you’ll have to assign your team to various tasks that will aid you in your attack on Minrathous. How well these people do depends on whether they are Heroes of the Veil, your relationships with the various factions, and whether they are suitable for the job. (You don’t have to match your companion to a faction, though.)
Poor preparation and choice can (and will) lead to the death of your companions, the leaders of the various factions, or both. But if you get everyone to Hero of the Veil, it’s tough to screw up here.
And that means you can focus on who you want on your team and work backwards.
Who should unravel security with Veil Jumpers?
The best choice would be someone magical because that will keep Strife, the leader of the Veil Jumpers, alive. Bellara has experience with magical artifacts, Emmrich has his necromancy, and Neve is a powerful magician.
The strongest choice is Bellara or Neve — of course, who you choose here depends on who you previously chose to dismantle the wards. However, if your faction is powerful enough and your companions are the Guardians of the Veil, Emmrich or Harding work here too.
Who should kill the Venatori Commander with Antivan Crows?
Your next choice will be who to send after the war mage Venatori while the Antivan Crows support him. You’re looking for someone with experience fighting mages (or just, you know, stabbing). Neve is a good choice, but if you’re looking for a killer, Lucana it’s an uncomplicated choice.
Depending on who is available and unassigned, Harding or Neve it can also be pulled out.
Who should fight Juggernaut with the Gray Wardens and the Mourning Guard?
You will then need to appoint someone to fight alongside the Gray Wardens and stop the building-sized Juggernaut. It’s tough to choose anyone, but Taash for this role for obvious reasons, but Davrin or Harding I can fill it out.
Can you enhance the power of Felassan’s Runes?
On the way to the final battle, you will have the opportunity to talk to Morrigan. He will give you a powerful fresh rune – Felassan rune — whose strength depends on how much progress you’ve made in the game “Heart of Corruption” side quest.
Who to Assign During “The Dire Wolf Rises”
On your way to the Archon’s Palace, you will have one last task to hand out.
Before you start climbing, all your allies gather and warn you of the upcoming attack, and you will have to choose one of your companions to stay back and aid. This choice is about protecting others. Neither Bellara nor Neve – whoever was kidnapped before – will be available for this role, but in this case they are both bad choices. (Spoiler: they will die.)
Your faction strength matters a lot here, as does the Hero of the Veil of your companions. If you have everything maxed out, their chances enhance, but you can still lose an ally because of this decision. Our experience shows that Davrin, Harding, Lucanis and Taash you will survive the fight, so you can choose who you don’t need on your team during the final battle.
At the end of the game you have one more choice: what to do with Solas. However, this decision determines what ending you will see. There are three potential outcomes, broadly divided into the customary “good”, “bad” and “neutral” paradigm, and which one can be obtained depends on certain preconditions.
