Alan Wake 2 Trapped in financial darkness, “most” development work, reimbursement of marketing costs

Published:

As writers, we have always been able to identify with Alan Wake’s messiah elaborate and narcissistic delusions of grandeur. And like the tortured typist, we begin to think we are doomed to an endless nightmare, forced to watch Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 crawl towards profitability, inch by inch and dollar by dollar.

Released in October 2023, “Alan Wake 2” was met with critical acclaim and a hit with fans, but like all great art, it did not receive the financial compensation it deserved. In May 2024, Remedy first stated that AW2 had recouped “most” of its development and advertising costs. Then, in its subsequent August quarterly report, Remedy again stated that the game represented the “largest” way to recover costs and generate royalties.

We’ll give you three guesses as to what descriptive word, without any additional details, the publisher/developer decided to exploit in November report. We look forward to the day when Alan Wake 2 fully recoupes Remedy’s investment in intellectual property, which we will be diligently recording for posterity, so get excited about that.
