Alan Wake 2 PS5 Pro Enhancements Will Be a “Pleasant Surprise”

Published:

One of the headline features of the PS5 Pro is the inclusion of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (or PSSR), a proprietary technology similar to Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (or DLSS) that uses AI to reconstruct an image from a lower resolution, allowing it to upscale lower internal resolutions to a higher resolution with very little artifacting or inaccuracies.

This means developers can exploit more processing power for things like physics and lighting, as they can render their games at a lower resolution and rely on an upscaler to deliver a tidy 4K image. Of course, we’ll need more real-world examples of PSSR in action before we can comment on its quality, but it could be why you might see lower-than-expected resolutions assigned to PS5 Pro versions of games.
