Hooded Horse and Eremite games have Preview provided With Against the Storm upcoming patch 1.4. This major update will bring major content additions to the base game. However, a release date has not yet been announced.
The main goal of patch 1.4 is to introduce additional resources and production. The main feature here is fishing, which takes place in ponds. These are resource nodes, like many others that already exist in the game world. They are exploited using fishing huts.
There are also up-to-date buildings, resources, needs and orders. Eremite Games admits that adding up-to-date resources and plans can result in bloat. The random (almost roguelite) nature Against the Storm requires you to exploit what is available to you effectively, rather than letting you rely on a single strategy. However, if you add too many, it can dilute the available strategies, making some sessions more tough than others.
To combat this, they’re adding up-to-date systems to unlock things, like relying on reputation from villager species as requirements. When I was reviewing Against the Storm (I’ll remind you that this was one of my favorite games this year) at launch, one of the things I praised the most was the ability to juggle multiple systems and aspects without diluting the overall experience. I totally get that adding more to it could make the game unbalanced, but at this point, Eremite Games has my faith that they can do it.
Eremite also announced that they will be revealing up-to-date species and a up-to-date biome that will be added in the upcoming paid DLC at the end of August. They also announced that they will be announcing the release date of patch 1.4 at that time. They also noted that this is a teaser of a teaser. Having been in this position for a while now, I realize that announcing teasers is pretty standard, but it’s still pretty weird.
Against the Storm is available now on PC. Update 1.4 and paid DLC currently have no set release date.
