After the success of horror film Longlegs, its distributor sticks to the genre and takes on the most funded horror film in Kickstarter history

Long legs has a very powerful start at the box office and now its distributor Neon is looking for his next horror movie on YouTube.

After a lot of potential pre-release hype, Longlegs opened to an impressive $22.6 million at the box office, which is a solid opening for a film with an estimated budget of less than $10 million. Its distributor, Neon, is no stranger to the horror genre, and after Longlegs was such a huge success, it looks like it will be hoping to do it again with Shelby Oaks , a documentary-and-found-footage-mix film directed by Chris Stuckmann. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Stuckmann is best known for his career as a film critic on YouTube, where he’s amassed over two million subscribers over the past decade.

Shelby Oaks was originally funded via Kickstarter in 2022, where it managed to raise almost $1.4 million despite only having a $250,000 goal. To date, it is the most-funded horror film on the fundraising site, and by a pretty vast margin (the second-highest-funded film raised about $400,000, a full million less). As Kickstarter Page He describes the film as a “Shelby Oaks” horror story about “missing paranormal investigators (paranoids who are into paranormal phenomena), the dark legacy they uncover, and the far-reaching implications of their investigation, while Mia searches for her sister Riley, a top paranormal investigator, 12 years later.”

“When Mia uncovers new and disturbing clues to Riley’s disappearance, she uncovers evidence of a hidden supernatural evil that stretches back to her and Riley’s childhood.”

The film doesn’t have a release date yet, but it will have its world premiere this Saturday at the Fantasia Festival. Mike Flanagan, who created Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House, is also an executive producer, so there are some pretty massive names involved in this indie project.
