For the past 20 years, the identity of the woman behind EVA in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was a closely guarded secret. The actor credited with the role is Suzetta Miñet, but that name is the pseudonym of a much more renowned voice-over artist, according to a up-to-date Konami video promoting the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 remake reveals.
The third episode of the Metal Gear Solid Legacy series, hosted by David Hayter, reveals that the actor behind EVA (aka Tatyana) in Snake Eater is Jodi Benson. She is best known for her role as Ariel in Disney films The Little Mermaid and Barbie from Pixar’s Toy Story series. Benson said in an interview with Hayter and Lori Alan (voice of the Boss) that the decision to exploit a pseudonym for her role in the film Metal Gear Solid 3 it was her decision, but she was informed about it by the game’s voice director.
Benson explained that because “the various projects I’m involved with in my career have a family and children’s nature,” voice director Kris Zimmerman suggested that she exploit a pseudonym.
“Our director sat down with me and said, ‘Maybe we should change your name,’” Benson recalled. “So she asked me, ‘What was your dog’s name growing up?’ and I said, “Suzette Monet.” So she said, “You know what? Let’s build on this. What about Suzetta? Maybe instead of Moneta, like the artist, we will do Miñeta? and I said, “Sounds like a deal.”
Benson, Zimmerman and the rest Metal Gear Solid 3 The voice cast wasn’t the only one who knew about Suzetta Miñet’s alter ego. According to Benson, seven years ago at an anonymous convention “where we meet and greet great fans,” someone slipped a copy Snake Eater to her, apparently for Benson to sign. “I said, ‘Why are you bringing this to me?’” she recalled. “And he says, ‘Because you’re in it.’ And I said, “Do you know? Do you know my deep, dark secret? and he said, “Yes!” I said, “Shh…stay quiet.”
Benson will continue as the voice of EVA Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. She and other cast members recorded up-to-date lines for the still-undated remake, which will be released on PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
