Actor Tony Pankhurst from The Dark Pictures anthology dies

Tony Pankhurst, the British actor who became a recognizable face in Supermassive’s horror series The Dark Pictures Anthology, has died at the age of 67.

“We are saddened to hear of the death of Tony Pankhurst. He was the face of The Curator and we loved working with him,” Supermassive said.

Pankhurst is best known for his work on The Dark Pictures Anthology series. Although Pip Torrens did both motion capture and voice work for The Curator, Pankhurst’s likeness was inspired by the fictional character’s appearance. Pankhurst even played the character in the live-action trailer for 2021’s The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes.

The Curator is a recurring character in The Dark Pictures Anthology series. Although he appears polite and composed, his presence, combined with the gloomy and ominous room he is in, is unsettling. He records the stories of players who experience terrifying and supernatural events throughout each game.

The Curator has appeared in every episode of the first season of the anthology The Dark Pictures, starting with 2019’s Man of Medan, and most recently had a cameo appearance in The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR, a 2023 PlayStation VR2 spin-off.

The Dark Pictures Anthology series concluded its first season following the premiere of The Devil in Me in 2022. A second season is planned, with the first part of season two, Directive 8020, currently in development.
