We’ve got a week left until the school holidays, so it’s time to get ready. Yes, that means shaking trees to find the craziest gaming deals, and then stockpiling them so you can later devour them at your leisure – probably without pants or pizza. I found a lot of slightly older items discounted from 75 to 95%. If you prefer to stay ultra-modern, I also have the hottest deals on the newest stuff!

In retro news: I celebrate the 37th birthday of a truly great man, Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System. I vividly remember being amazed by my first playthrough of a lifetime at a friend’s. Every stage we tackled through the “4 in the back” worlds of this odyssey without saving throws felt like it had survived a murder gauntlet. Every secret pipe or warp room we found—without the aid of the nonexistent internet—was a cave of wonders uncovered. To this day, the infectious melodies and subtle physics of this 2D platformer still feel like a high point to me, and I can honestly say that nearly four decades have done nothing to cold my hatred of those spiked Lakitus.

Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra

Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra

The Ultra is pricey, but it’s demanding not to notice how effectively it delivers the extra value that justifies it. Where the Elite Series 2 was caught tiny, the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra excels, charging on advanced sensors and excellent design. 9/10.

Gran Turismo 7 [PS5]

Gran Turismo 7 [PS5]

A damn good 9/10 racer that has been consistently improved and refined over the past two years. Sick cars. Additional modes. More tracks. And, most importantly, probably the best VR experience you can get on PS5 (assuming you have the guts to tackle it).
