Published:

Jiaoqiu Honkai Star Rail Set may look familiar if you’ve been around long enough to have Guinaifen on your team. Nihility’s newest 5-star champion weakens enemies with a unique effect that increases the amount of damage they take and deals a significant amount of burn damage to them. He also has a tiny buff for champions who apply their ultimate, making him a perfect choice for teams with Acheron – and likely Feixiao, eventually – as their primary damage dealers.

Our Honkai Star Rail Jiaoqiu kit guide explains how the Foxian healer-not-healer works and which Traces deserve your attention first. Once you know how Jiaoqiu works, head over to our Jiaoqiu build guide to equip him with everything he needs.

Honkai Star Rail Jiaoqiu set

Jiaoqiu may consider himself a healer, but his skills deal damage, weaken enemies, and cause damage over time (DOT), and he also has some special support skills for characters who rely on their ultimates.

Jiaoqiu’s Basic Attack: Blazing Heart

Jiaoqiu deals Fire damage equal to 50/90 percent of her attacks to a single target.

Jiaoqiu Skill: Scorch Strike

Jiaoqiu deals Fire damage equal to 75/150 percent of his Attack to a single target and damage equal to 45/90 percent of his Attack to adjacent targets, with a 100% chance to inflict Ash (more on that in a moment) on a single target.

Jiaoqiu ultimate: Pyrograph Arcanum

Jiaoqiu sets Ashen Roast stacks to the highest number allowed—five, unless you unlock his sixth Eidolon—on all enemies, activates a zone, and deals Fire damage equal to 60/100 percent of his Attack to all enemies. While the zone is lively, all enemies inside it take 9/15 percent more Ultimate damage and have a 50/60 percent chance to gain a stack of Ashen Roast when they attack.

The zone lasts for three turns, and Ashen Roast’s effect can be triggered up to six times while the zone lasts. If Jiaoqiu uses her ultimate again, the trigger counter will be reset.

Jiaoqiu’s Talent: Quartet Finesse, Octave Finesse

Jiaoqiu’s talent functions somewhat like Guinaifen’s Firekiss effect. Jiaoqiu has a 100% base chance to deal one stack of Ashen Roast when his attack, ability, or ultimate lands. An enemy with one stack of Ashen Roast takes 7.5/15 percent more damage, and each additional stack increases the damage taken by an additional 2.5/5 percent. At five stacks with Trace 10, the target will take 35 percent more damage.

Enemies with Ashen Roast take Burn damage when their turn begins, equal to 90/180 percent of Jiaoqiu’s Attack. Ashen Roast stacks for two turns after being applied. Its A6 may sound tiny, but it can make a massive difference if you apply it in Pure Fiction.

Additional traces of Jiaoqiu

Jiaoqiu’s bonus Traces are a bit less impressive than those we see on other characters, though they do make it easier to build and apply effectively in combat.

  • A2: Jiaoqiu recovers 15 energy when battle starts
  • A4: Every 15 percent of Jiaoqiu’s hit rate above 80 percent increases his attack by 60 percent, up to a maximum of 240 percent.
  • A6: While Jiaoqiu Zone is lively, enemies that enter combat gain a number of Ashen Roast equal to the maximum number currently lively on the field, or one if no enemies have Ashen Roast

Honkai Star Rail Jiaoqiu Traces Priority

Like most Nihility champions – who aren’t Acheron – Jiaoqiu deals relatively little damage. His utility lies in his effects, particularly Ashen Roast’s damage modifiers, so you should focus on his talent before anything else. From there, it depends on who you’re using with Jiaoqiu. If he’s teaming up with champions like Acheron who rely on their ultimate, his ultimate should be your next priority. If not, boost his abilities to assist him get more damage.
