No, you won’t find Switch 2 news on the Nintendo Museum Direct live stream

Published:

Nintendo announced on Sunday that the next Nintendo Direct will take place on August 19, but informed viewers that NO expect game announcements and news about the Nintendo Switch’s successor, also known as the Switch 2.

“Join us tomorrow, August 19th at 3:00 PM PST, for a tour of the Nintendo Museum, scheduled to open in fall 2024 in Kyoto, Japan.” Nintendo posted from its X account“The Nintendo Museum Direct live stream will last approximately 10 minutes.”

But a caveat quickly emerged.: “Please note that there will be no game announcements or mentions of a Nintendo Switch successor during this presentation.” It’s a classic case of setting expectations. Nintendo knows its players are eagerly awaiting any news about its next console, and it wants people to know that they won’t find it here. That’s unfortunate, but it would be a lot worse for gamers if there were no details about what to expect. (Of course, why would you expect news about the Switch 2 during a museum tour? Unknown!)

Still, a trip to the Nintendo museum sounds fantastic. Nintendo announced in 2021 that it intends to transform its Nintendo Uji Ogura factory in Kyoto, Japan, into a museum designed “to showcase the many products Nintendo has introduced throughout its history,” stated in a press releaseThe original building was built in 1969 to produce playing cards and Hanafuda Cardsand a “customer service center dedicated to product repairs,” Nintendo said.

Nintendo has only shared ongoing renderings of the modern Nintendo Museum, so Monday’s tour will be the first in-depth look. Nintendo said it is expected to open in the fall.
