Little Nightmares III returns to Gamescom with a brand fresh trailer, highlighting the synergy between the two characters and teasing fresh environments to explore!

Cooperative Features and New Puzzle-Solving Mechanisms

Little Nightmares III is the first game in the series to feature online co-op play for two players. The latest trailer shows off some of the co-op mechanics that will come in handy when players play together in co-op mode or solo with a second AI-controlled character.

Low and Alone, the two playable characters, are best friends and complement each other very well. Each of them has an iconic item: a bow for Low and a key for Alone.

Teamwork will be key to progressing through the game. For example, in the trailer, we see that Low can take down smaller enemies with a bow, while Alone has to finish them off on the ground with a wrench.

At the end of the trailer, you can also see Low putting his bow to good utilize while saving Alone from the terrifying gaze of Monster Baby.

However, teamwork isn’t just about using objects. It’s also about clearing the way for your partner to support you move forward. You’ll need to be proactive and take the initiative so that you both can do this.

“The relationship between these two characters is very strong, and we wanted to explore that bond in the game. It’s even more compelling when we see them working together to escape the many threats that Nowhere creates,” said Wayne Garland, Little Nightmares III Game Director at Supermassive Games.

New settings, true to the Little Nightmares atmosphere

Teamwork is at the heart of the trailer, but it’s not the only fresh thing players will experience as they play through the game’s compelling story. By including co-op, we wanted to offer players something fresh and unique to Little Nightmares III, while still maintaining the attractive and unsettling atmosphere of the series.

You’ll feel it in fresh environments that are full of secrets and revelations. You’ll also find the same tension and suspense as these two charming fresh characters face even greater risks than before, searching for a glimmer of hope in a world filled with darkness.

The Necropolis is a good example of a fresh type of location in the game. Despite its abandoned state and toasty desert colors, the city feels eerie and unsettling. Don’t let the windy, brightly lit environment fool you. Danger is everywhere, and Monster Baby is easily woken up by fresh toys falling into her crib…

You can also catch a glimpse of many other regions of Nowhere in the trailer, each more disturbing than the last. Some of them may remind you of places you might have explored in previous Little Nightmares games, like dank and gloomy vents and the gears and pistons of ruthless machinery. Some are less familiar, like a rickety Ferris wheel, a dim circus tent, or a massive, intricate clockwork mechanism.

You’ll have to be patient before we tell you more about these places and their inhabitants! More information about Little Nightmares III will be revealed in the near future, so stick together, little ones.

Little Nightmares III will be released in 2025 for PS5 and PS4.
