Surprise – Hideo Kojima Returns to Joking with Death Stranding 2 Actors and Fans Seem to Have Figured It Out in Record Time

Bang. Hideo Kojima is back. Well, I’m back to tweeting Death Stranding 2 teasers, which consist of a photo of an unnamed actor with a question at the top, begging people to ask questions. Questions like who? How? Now what?

Yes, at 9am on Monday morning of the week of the video game event — Gamescom, you may have heard of it — the developers released a teaser image that may or may not hint at something about the show. One thing is for sure, fans are pretty sure they’ve figured out which actor the teaser image is of.

Below you can find Kojima’s latest trailer, which as far as I can tell is the first of its kind the director has released in a while. The Death Stranding 2 marketing is full of such footage, with the most memorable coming around the time Kojima Productions was letting everyone know about Elle Fanning’s involvement in the game, with the same sort of “blank outline, here’s a question mark” vibe that’s being used here.

That said, in this case it looks like it took people about ten minutes. No, that’s not Mads Mikkelsen, he’s not in the game. Kenjiro Tsuda, of Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia fame, is the guy Kojima seems to be hinting at. Of course, Tsuda also provides the Japanese voice for Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus.

Naturally, fans on Reddit I suppose this announcement could suggest that Tsuda will be doing full motion capture of his character in DS2, rather than just lending his voice to a character for whom someone else did all the motion capture and modeling, so we’ll have to see if that pans out.

Inevitably, given the timing, the teaser also sparked some speculation among fans that Kojima could potentially show up at Gamescom this week to share something DS2-related. I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high, given that the game last showed up at January’s State of Play and PlayStation skipped the show again this year, but you never know. Thanks to once, a few years ago when Kojima showed up at ONL just to tell Geoffrey Keighley that a podcast called Brain Structure was coming out.
