The original Resident Evil 2 already has a release date on GOG.
The classic 1998 survival horror video game is returning to PC on August 27, 2024. This version is based on the original 1998 PC release and includes “various quality-of-life improvements, compatibility with modern systems, full support for modern controllers, and more,” GOG said.
Here’s a comprehensive list of all the features for the GOG version of Resident Evil 2:
- Fully compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- The game is available in six language versions (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese).
- Improved DirectX game renderer.
- New rendering options (windowed mode, vertical sync control, gamma correction, integer scaling, and more).
- Improved audio volume and panning.
- Improved cutscenes and subtitles.
- Improved save game manager.
- Improved video game player.
- Exiting the game without problems.
- Improved game registry settings.
- Improved keyboard shortcuts and audio settings screens.
- Fixed the end credits in the German version.
- Fixed issues with rooms 114 and 115 (missing text), room 210 (concealed diary), and room 409 (looping sound).
- Full support for newfangled controllers (Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock 4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Microsoft Xbox One, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Logitech F series and many more) with optimal button assignments regardless of hardware and wireless mode.
- 4th Survivor and Tofu modes enabled from the start.
And if you haven’t played the original Resident Evil 2 yet, here’s what you can expect:
- Two separate adventures! Command Leon Kennedy, a rookie cop who stumbles upon a massacre while reporting for his first duty, or play as Claire Redfield, desperately searching for her missing brother.
- Modern, accelerated 3D graphics create a terrifying, photorealistic experience.
- Both 3-D and non-3D accelerated settings maximize performance regardless of your configuration.
- Includes complete versions of both the original US and Japanese versions of Resident Evil 2.
- New Extreme Battle Mode: Face off against hordes of zombies in an incredibly intense challenge that changes every time you play.
- Brand up-to-date Resident Evil 2 image gallery.
- The game’s secret scenario is available from the very beginning (there is no need to complete it first if certain conditions are met).
GOG has been slowly re-releasing the PC versions of the first three Resident Evil games, with 1997’s Resident Evil already available on the platform and 2000’s Resident Evil 3 coming soon. Capcom has announced that the next mainline Resident Evil game, dubbed Resident Evil 9 by fans, is in development, and the company is reportedly working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica.
