Iron equipment is the last extension for Deepenbut its story takes place alongside the base game. It’s difficult to tell as you play whether there’s a point of no return that will end the game before it ends. Luckily, I’ve played through the entire game and can tell you exactly what to do as you approach the end of the DLC.
After starting Iron equipmentyou will be sent on a series of up-to-date tasks where you will be able to visit or re-visit a location depending on where you are DeepenThe story, every biome in the game. The Platform, the up-to-date DLC location, is massively impressive and I always thought it would be the focal point of the game’s ending. It’s not, and the DLC ending happens separately from the main game’s ending, but they are connected in ways you might want to know about.
Is there a point of no return? Excavator: Iron Platform?
No, there is no point of no return. Excavator: Iron Platform. I’m getting into spoiler territory in the section below, but I’ll stay out of those waters here, giving only the most critical information. The Pursuit finale in Iron equipment sabotages the platform’s defenses. This is something you’ll be able to do once you’ve delivered all of his samples from the Twisted Strand to the scientist.

What happens when you sabotage an oil rig’s defenses? Excavator: Iron Platform?
When you sabotage the defense of the oil rig in Excavator: Iron Platformthe FLEE message you sent to keep the beast away from the depths of the structure has been changed to RISE. Of course, this invites it to literally rise out of the ocean, and that’s exactly what it does.
As the tentacles wrap around the platform’s legs and begin to crush them, it looks like the whole thing is being pulled under the ocean, as whatever is on the other end of the tentacles slowly but surely rises. Instead, the Leviathan that eats you Deepenbad ending, or if you swim to the edge of the map, grab a tentacle and pull the monster back under the waves. It saves the day.
Interestingly enough, while I was playing Iron equipment and I had a moment during the day when my panic meter was pretty high, a tentacle appeared in the water in front of me. Just as I swerved to avoid it, the whale jumped out, bit the tentacle, and pulled it under. This tells me that all the larger sea creatures must somehow work together. Or the whale mistook the historic creature for the colossal squid it normally eats.
This seems to indicate that the Leviathan that inhabits the seas around the Marrows is actually fighting the aberrations and the source of the cosmic horrors that appear in those waters. It’s like an aged god watching over to make sure that an even older evil doesn’t arise.
