PUBG publisher Krafton employs about 50 of the 100 employees who worked at Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks when that company was under Microsoft’s supervision (and shut down by it).
Journalist Stephen Totilo said in X/Twitter that Krafton’s PR department informed him that the company “plans to transfer approximately 50 development staff from Tango Gameworks to Krafton’s Japanese subsidiary. The transferred staff will continue to work on new projects, including the expansion of the HI-FI RUSH IP, at Krafton.”
The studio, alongside the Hi-Fi Rush series, was saved when Krafton announced it had acquired the studio from Microsoft in early August 2024. “Krafton intends to work with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity within Tango Gameworks, enabling the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and exploring future projects,” it said at the time.
It is unclear why the remaining 50 or so employees did not join Krafton, but it is possible they have already found work elsewhere, as the studio’s closure was announced three months earlier, in May 2024.
At the same time, Microsoft closed down Arkane Austin, the creators of Redfall, much to the shock and anger of developers and fans alike.
