The answers to today’s Connections, game #433, are…

  • YELLOW: SPOKEN COMMUNICATION DIALECT, LANGUAGE, SPEECH, LANGUAGE
  • GREEN: CANODLA FRENCH, KISS, KISSING, NECK
  • BLUE: FIRST AID KIT ITEMS BANDAGE, DRESSING, SCISSORS, TAPE
  • PURPLE: HOUSE STYLES HOME, CRAFTSMAN, PRAIRIE, RANCHO

  • My rating: Easy
  • My result: Perfect

That’s effortless even by recent Connections standards (which tended toward the effortless side anyway). As evidence, I solved the purple, supposedly hardest, problem first—although I had some aid there. That’s because house styles were also the subject of another NYT word game, Strands, just a few days ago—so CRAFTSMAN, COTTAGE, and RANCH were fresh in my mind. PRAIRIE wasn’t in that game, I’ll admit, but it wasn’t much of a mental effort to connect them with the others.

The remaining three groups were also not particularly hard, so I solved them relatively quickly and left my reflections for another day.

  • PURPLE: THINGS THAT RISE AND FALL ELEVATOR, SUN, TIDE, YO-YO

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It requires you to find groups of four items that have something in common, with each group having a different level of difficulty: green is effortless, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.

The positive is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one, since you’ll be able to answer it by elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of breathing room.

It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to surprise you with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can hide answers.

You can play it for free via NYT Games Page on your desktop computer or mobile device.
