Keep in mind that stainless steel Apple Watches are significantly more pricey than their aluminum counterparts. Apple Watch Series 9 with a 45mm stainless steel case is currently $749 at the Apple Store. This deal saves you over 50% on that amount. There’s a lot of smartwatch competition out there, but in our opinion, the Apple Watch is still the best smartwatch of 2024.

The Apple Series 7 was released in 2021, but it’s still an excellent smartwatch with a nearly identical design to the Apple Watch Series 9 and almost all of the same features. The only key Series 9 improvements worth mentioning are a more powerful chip (Apple S7 in the Series7 and S9 in the Series 9) and a brighter display. Beyond that, the Series 7 shares all of the best features, like the always-on Retina OLED display, a sturdy IP6X casing that’s dust- and water-resistant (up to 50mm), and a wealth of health sensors like ECG, blood oxygen, and heart rate monitors.
If you don’t need the durability of the Apple Watch Ultra, the stainless steel Series 9 is a more elegant alternative. The stainless steel case is more sturdy and less prone to scratches than the aluminum case, and it looks better, too. The stainless steel models also come with a more sturdy Sapphire Crystal glass cover for the display. It does cost a lot more than the aluminum, though, so unless you get a massive discount, expect to pay close to the price of the Apple Watch Ultra. This watch also supports LTE connectivity; that means you can apply the watch to receive calls and messages even when your phone is not nearby, as long as you add an Apple Watch-specific line to your cellular plan.
