Building on what was achieved in Ghost of Tsushima, developer Sucker Punch brings back the wind-based navigation mechanics and places them in a more free-form, open world setting. With Mount Yotei in the distance, you’ll traverse various regions in search of the Yotei Six, exploring all the cities and discovering their secrets in order to gain clues to their whereabouts.
Each feature has been designed with the benefit of the open world in mind, presenting a lovely recreation of Japan that you’ll want to take the time to fully explore. It may not offer anything completely recent in the open world genre, but Ghost of Yotei is an example of it at its best.

In terms of sheer uniqueness, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything more distinctive than Atomfall in the open world this year. You wake up in a dystopian version of Britain, with a classic village in the center and a ruined landscape surrounding it. The mystery of what happened is woven into every place you come across and makes exploring each area intriguing and invigorating. It’s not the biggest, but Atomfall brings so much mystery to its play space that it feels like a real English village.

Nobody creates games like Kojima Productions, and this is confirmed in the case of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. A more simplistic sequel, delivering packages across a ruined country continues to be the focus of Sam Bridges’ latest adventure. However, this time he is better equipped with combat skills, vehicles and the DHV Magellan.
There’s not much to Death Stranding 2’s often open world – but that’s one of the best things about it. You and other players can support restore Australia to glory by pooling resources to rebuild roads and structures. It all looks incredibly stunning, but Death Stranding 2’s diverse biomes, along with all the Preppers in between, make for a captivating open-world endeavor.

Time travel machines won’t be invented in our lifetime, so Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is probably the best game you’ll get if you want to role-play the life of a medieval man. An incredible achievement that includes two huge open world maps in one game. Your playing time is divided between the village and villages of Trosky and the main town of Kuttenberg.
But the real magic happens when you explore them. The world is filled with hundreds of quests, and in between there are villages, merchants, and random encounters true to the story. You must dress for the occasion, face the consequences of each crime and climb to the bottom. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is certainly the best medieval simulator ever.
