In January, Silt will release the haunting undersea puzzle adventure on iOS and Android

Hot on the heels of Maneater jumping on your cell phone and letting you terrorize the ocean as an apex predator, another undersea adventure is brewing on the surface and it couldn’t be more different. Silt will officially launch on iOS and Android in January, and pre-registration is already open ahead of launch.

Where Maneater is noisy and weird, Silt goes in the opposite direction. It’s a more unsettling descent into the depths, built around atmosphere, restraint, and the Subnautica-like tension of not knowing what’s watching you from the obscure.

Originally developed by indie British studio Spiral Circus and now published for mobile devices by Snapbreak, Silt has gained popularity on PC and consoles thanks to its striking monochromatic art style and wordless narrative. On mobile devices, the same incredible experience has been carefully reworked for touch controls, which are enhanced tenfold when you plug in your headphones and dim the lights.

In Silt, you play as a lone diver floating in the alien depths of the ocean, with no dialogue and minimal support. You interact with the world by temporarily taking control of nearby sea creatures, each of which offers a specific ability to lend a hand you move forward. Some allow you to reach up-to-date areas, others activate mechanisms or lend a hand you avoid threats.

What truly defines Silt is its restraint. Everything is black and white and you never feel like someone is trying to show off. As you drift down, things slowly come to airy and you start to notice shapes that don’t quite make sense yet – creatures, structures, bits of machinery, unexplained, just there, letting you piece it all together.

If you’re on the fence, Silt’s mobile launch on January 20 will include a free demo. It allows you to play through the initial stretch without committing.
