- CloverPit sees you locked in a room and forced to gamble to save your life
- He is as subtle as a hammer, but as swift and crazy as Balatro
- Download it on iOS and Android and try to literally beat the odds
Gambling has been experiencing a renaissance in recent years. You can bet on the results of sports matches, political elections, the stock market (no, not buying stocks, literally betting) and many other arbitrary decisions. If that sounds like hell, CloverPit agrees and decides to make things worse.
Probably one of the most effective anti-gambling metaphors I’ve ever seen, CloverPit is the up-to-date version of Panik Arcade, which is now available for purchase on iOS and Android. In it, you are locked in a room with a vending machine and an ATM. Your goal? Pay off your debts by gambling and avoid falling into the (literal) abyss.
Yes, it’s not exactly subtle, but then again, it doesn’t have to be. In CloverPit, the playing field is level, and it’s not demanding to figure out what the message is, if there is one. It certainly has a little more spice than even its closest counterpart, Balatro.
Well, Dangit
Of course, it is still something that is primarily intended to give pleasure. You will have the opportunity to influence your chances of winning using various modifiers. All this in order to finally defeat the machine at its (literal) game and free itself from its captors.
With its soiled, gritty aesthetic, CloverPit has recently joined some rather unsubtle indie releases. However, given the current state of affairs, I would say that the hammer metaphor is valid. And who knows? Maybe you’ll find some fun after all. Just remember that there is always something up-to-date to pay for at CloverPit.
In the meantime, if you really want to break free, there’s no better way than leaving the AppStore. Check out the latest entry in our regular series, where Will Quick dives into King’s Gambit to see if this RPG Maker original will hold up in 2025.
