Metal Gear Solid AND Death Strand Developer Hideo Kojima says the development of his upcoming OD horror game is “difficult” because unlike his previous games, this one required a change in the way games are created “from the ground up.”
WITH This is, of course, not the first time Kojima has dabbled in horror games. PT is his uniquely terrifying take on the horror genrepresented in a house full of unexpected encounters and strange secrets. Ultimately, PT turned out to be a “playable trailer” for a secret Silent Hills project that never came to fruition. For many – myself included – this is considered one of the scariest video game experiences of all time.
Unfortunately, Konami canceled Silent Hills in 2015 after a painful public argument with Kojima. The free demo was subsequently removed from the PlayStation Network, sparking false rumors that the company was already deleting downloaded copies of the demo from PS4 consoles around the world. OD seems to pick up where PT left off, at least in spirit, and that’s it The latest trailer suggests it will be equally terrifyingsparking speculation is somehow related to PT.
The mystery game stars Dungeons & Dragons’ Sophia Lillis from Honor Among Thieves, Udo Kier from Hunters and Hunter Schafer from Euphoria, and the trailer shows Lillis’ character in a scary house, lighting candles before meeting a sinister figure.
Now I’m talking to ananwebas he translated MachineKojima admitted that he’s not entirely sure if the OA “will work,” but suggested that there are plenty of clues in the trailer.
“I can’t say exactly what it is yet, nor do I know if it will work. We created stealth games and delivery games that were unlike anything before, but system-wise they were similar to other games,” Kojima said. “This time we are trying to change the service model from the ground up, so it should be quite difficult.
“We filled the trailer full of clues, so if you keep thinking about it, you might be able to figure it out,” he added.
And we actually thought about it! Check out our thoughts on how OD can actually connect with PT here.
In October, IGN reported that the Wachowskis, the writers and directors of The Matrix films, once asked Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima to design the Matrix video game, but publisher Konami reportedly turned down the proposal. “The Wachowskis were huge Kojima fans,” Christopher Bergstresser, vice president of licensing at Konami Digital Entertainment, said at the time. “So Kazumi Kitaue, Kojima, Aki Saito (who still works with Kojima) and I were at Konami headquarters and we got a call from the Wachowskis who wanted to come and meet Kojima. And they did!”
Kojima responded to the claim just hours later, saying was “surprised” to read the newsinsisting, “no one ever told me this conversation took place.”
