Tim Cain, one of the creators of the original Fallout video game, has rejoined Xbox studio Obsidian Entertainment to work on a mysterious project.
IN video published on his YouTube channel (which he used to tell a lot of amusing stories about the development of the first Fallout game), Cain said that he is now a full-time member of the Obsidian staff and was last seen working on The Outer Worlds 2, Grounded 2, and Avowed. This means that he is no longer a contractor, so he does not work for other studios, although a game will be released in the future with his name on it.
Cain didn’t say anything about the project he joined Obsidian on, and told fans not to even bother guessing what it is.
“I also can’t talk about the project I’m working on at Obsidian just because it’s under an NDA,” he said. “Don’t bother guessing. You’re not going to guess right. I’d say I’m probably a lot less retired now than I was before, so this whole movie I have about being semi-retired, I feel like I’m not.”
Cain most recently worked at Obsidian as a full-time employee on Pillars of Eternity and The Outer Worlds. He then became a contractor and collaborated on the creation of The Outer Worlds 2. Obsidian has not yet announced his next project. Last month, developers Obsidian said that they are well aware that whenever the studio announces a recent game, people ask where Fallout: New Vegas 2 is, but they also like that they have managed to create recent IPs and even release sequels to them.
Fallout Season 2 will debut on Prime Video this December, as will Bethesda recent Fallout: New Vegas pack there’s no news yet on a Fallout remaster or Fallout: New Vegas 2 that could capitalize on the surge in interest in the series. Obsidian is, of course, the creator of the beloved 2010 RPG Fallout: New Vegas, so fans often wonder whether it will return to the setting for the sequel, especially considering it is currently owned by Bethesda’s parent company, Microsoft.
Obsidian, however, has focused on creating completely recent games and has been prolific at it. Grounded was released (Grounded 2 was released this year), the fantasy RPG Avowed (which was released this year), and the sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds (The Outer Worlds 2 was released this year). Pentiment, which came out last year, was another brand recent game, although I wouldn’t expect a sequel any time soon.
Last month Fallout 3 Remaster This leaked in 2023 apparently still a work in progress. In response to Bethesda’s head of development, Todd Howard, recently interviewed with GQhe was talking about Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way away and “we’re doing a few other things” in the Fallout series, VGC announced that among them there is a remaster of Fallout 3, similar to this year’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
There have been many rumors circulating about potential Fallout remakes, and there is certainly a growing expectation among fans that Bethesda will turn to its older Fallout video games to keep fans waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6.
